The two presidential candidates in Guinea's presidential election appealed for calm, after renewed violence followed the third postponement of the run-off earlier scheduled for Sunday.
"We will do everything to avoid tensions between ethnic groups," Mr Alpha Conde said, while the other candidate, former Prime Minister Cellou Dalein Diallo, asked his followers "to refrain from revenge attacks to preserve the country's peace and unity."
They asked their followers to avoid ethnic tensions, after shops owned by the Fulani people were reportedly looted or destroyed in Conakry, Kankan and Siguiri on Friday and Saturday.
According to reports, shop owners, who are mostly Fulanis and supporters of Diallo, were attacked after Conde supporters bought contaminated water bags and yoghourt packages from them where they had gone to welcome Conde back from a campaign tour.
The country's military ruler condemned the violence and vowed to bring troublemakers to book."The state will assume all its responsibilities against all troublemakers, it will be zero tolerance for delinquents and those responsible for criminal acts," AFP quoted Konate as saying.
