Tanzania : Ban Praises Tanzanians After Peaceful Elections

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has congratulated the people of Tanzania for the peaceful conclusion of the recent general elections following today's confirmation of the official results.

He commended the relevant electoral authorities in the East African country, the political parties and leaders, who he said, demonstrated their commitment to peace and democracy.

According to Tanzania's electoral commission, President Jakaya Kikwete was re-elected with 61 per cent of the vote.
