Tunisia's security services on Tuesday rescued a child who had been kidnapped since late October.
Montassar Ben Rejeb, whose age was not revealed by the police, had been whisked away and abducted by a criminal gang. All the members of the group have been arrested, according to a police statement.
President Ben Ali, who had entrusted Interior and Local Development Minister Rafik Belhaj Kacem with the mission of locating and freeing the young child, thanked the minister and his security team for a job well done.
Child kidnapping has not been frequent in the North African country, prompting observers to give different interpretations as motives behind the incident.
