ABUJA, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Another bomb explosion rocked a church in Abuja, capital of Nigeria, on Friday.

Reports reaching Xinhua have confirmed that the 2nd bomb exploded at the Dunamis church in Jikowyi, a suburb in Abuja.

Two bomb explosions have rocked the Nigerian capital on Friday with the first one hitting the busy "Mammy" market attached to the Abacha Barracks in the Asokoro area of Abuja.

Police said the first bomb was planted in an area where people were gathering to celebrate the coming of the New Year.

Abuja experienced bomb explosions on Oct. 1 near the Eagle Square where the country's 50th independence anniversary was holding.

The "Mammy" market is base for many Abuja fun-seekers who relish in roasted fish and drinks. On daily basis many throng the market to unwind or just to catch fun. Many take their expatriate visitors to the market to get a feel of Nigerian hospitality.

Police spokesman in Abuja Jimoh Moshood told Xinhua that the area had been cordoned off by security operatives, while the bomb disposal unit of the police are working on the scene.

Reports said at least 11 people were killed in the first bomb explosion. But the figures cannot be confirmed by the police so far.

"There were casualties, but the number remains unknown," Moshood said.

Witnesses said many lost their limbs in the blast while a house nearby collapsed.

"I saw security operatives carrying corpses into 'Hilux' vans," a witness said .

The spokesman said the police is on ground diverting traffic so as to keep people safe.
