KHARTOUM, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Friday called for formation of a broad-base government that includes all Sudanese political parties to unite the county's internal front.

"I here call for formation of a broad-base government that expands the base of participation and enables uniting of the internal front," al-Bashir said in an address on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the country's Independence Day.

"I take this opportunity to call on all the national political forces and all leaders of the political parties to come together to develop our homeland and preserve its sovereignty and independence away from any external intervention," he added.

He said, "I call on everybody to unite our vision towards our homeland to preserve its security and stability and protect it against all hazards."

He also reiterated commitment to conduct south Sudan referendum as scheduled.

"We renew our commitment to the date agreed upon for the referendum and we will respect its results," said al-Bashir, stressing the government's maximum readiness to secure the referendum process.

"I would like to reassure all the sons of the homeland that we will not avail any opportunity for any security disturbance before and after the referendum," he said, reiterating to protect the southern Sudanese who live in the north and calling on the south Sudan government to adopt similar measures to ensure safety of the northerners in the south.

On the Darfur conflicts, al-Bashir reiterated the government's commitment to achieve peace in Darfur, saying "the Darfurians today have a unique opportunity to end the war and join the peace process."
