President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia has concluded a three-day visit to Libya during which she had talks with Libyan leader Mouammar Kadhafi on the Community of Sahelian-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) and African issues, Pana said.
Sirleaf held a meeting with Libyan General Popular Committee Secretary Baghdadi Mahmoudi on Saturday, the last day of her visit. No official communiqué was released at the end of the talk, but a Libyan source said perspectives of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in different areas and the means of promoting it had been examined.
The promotion of Libyan investments in Liberia, notably a big rice project and a rubber factory were also discussed, according to the source.
The source also indicated that the two sides agreed to begin, from next week, a big mechanised agricultural campaign announced in 2008 by Kadhafi during the CEN-SAD Summit in Cotonou, Benin, that includes most of the CEN-SAD countries to help small African farmers.
The project will also help in the fight against poverty by ensuring African food security.
Libya’s Cooperation Secretary Mohamed Siala and African Union Affairs Secretary Jumaa Brahim as well as Ms Sirleaf delegation took part in the meeting.
