The first edition of the annual documentary film Festival known as iRepresent International Documentary Film Festival is scheduled to begin on the 20th-23rd of January in Nigeria's commercial nerve-centre of Lagos.
The theme for this maiden edition is "Can documentaries provoke change? The four-day event will among others, feature film screenings, training workshops and paper presentations by resource persons around the world.
According to the Executive Director of iREP Femi Odugbemi, the Festival would showcase the ability of African filmmakers to bring better understanding within and outside the continent with documentaries that give a more rounded definition of the African experience.
"iREP is a touring film festival established by three Nigerian culture figures to promote independent documentary films and global awareness about the role of documentary films in deepening participatory democracy," Femi Odugbemi said in a statement on the programme's website.
"Some of its other objectives include creating a platform of awareness and expression for aspiring and practicing filmmakers, and providing a forum for people’s ingenuity to be showcased without prejudice to style or subject," the Executive Director of iREP added.
