20110213 presstv The results of an opinion poll suggest that the popular revolution in Egypt will lead to the escape of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak from the country.
According to the poll carried out by Press TV, nearly 50 percent of respondents believed that beleaguered Mubarak will flee the North African country.
The results indicated that 12 percent said that the unrest will be quelled with the support of the United States.
This is while 38 percent believed that the Egyptian revolution will bring about Mubarak's collapse but the remnants of the system will still persist.
Following 18 days of pro-democracy protests across Egypt, the ousted Mubarak stepped down on Friday, handing over power to a military council.
However, Egypt's army on Sunday clashed with protesters that refuse to leave Cairo's Liberation Square two days after the end of three-decade rule of the US-backed dictator Mubarak.
On Saturday, the military promised "a peaceful transition of power" to an elected civilian government in order to build "a free democratic state."
Activists have demanded the release of political prisoners, the lifting of a 30-year-old state of emergency and the disbandment of military courts. They say demonstrations will continue until the army acts on the reforms.
According to the United Nations, over 300 people were killed and thousands others wounded in the Egyptian revolution that began on January 25.
