20110224 Xinhua ADDIS ABABA, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Peace and Security Council of the African Union (PSC-AU) on Wednesday strongly deplored the unfortunate tragic loss of life in Libya.
The statement was made at a press briefing after the PSC meeting held on Libya at the AUC headquarters in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa by Namibian Ambassador to Ethiopia Kakena Nangula, who is also the chairperson of the AU-PSC.
She said the council called on the people of Libya and stakeholders to exercise restraint to avoid further loss of life and destruction of properties in Libya.
The chairperson said the PSC had decided to dispatch of an urgent mission to Libya to finds facts on the ground.
Nagula also said the PSC on Wednesday was briefed by the Libyan permanent representative to the AU on the situation in the North African country. "The council received a briefing from the permanent representative of Libya to the AU who brought us up-to-date, recent events on the ground," she said.
