A total of 98 Malaysian citizens evacuated from conflict-ridden Libya arrived on board a Malaysian Airlines flight at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Monday morning in Sepang, 60 kilometers away from the country's capital.
They were brought home three days after they had been airlifted out of Tripoli, Libya's capital.
The evacuees included six employees of the Malaysian Embassy in Libya, two students at the Libyan Islamic University and staff from a private company in Libya.
The Malaysians were flown out of Libya via a special chartered aircraft, Tunis Air, to Tunisia last Friday and subsequently to Rome, Italy, after about two weeks of unrest engulfed the North African country.
Malaysian Deputy Foreign Minister Richard Riot, who was there to greet the evacuees, told the press that his ministry was still trying to locate and contact three Malaysians who worked in Libya.
32 other Malaysian evacuees, who are now in Rome, are expected to return home on Wednesday.
Malaysian Foreign Affairs Minister Anifah Aman had earlier said in a statement that the ministry will continue to monitor the situation in Libya and provide prompt assistance to a few Malaysian students who opted to stay there.
