RIYADH, March 3 (Xinhua) -- A senior Egyptian diplomat denied a report claimed that former President Hosni Mubarak is now in Saudi Arabia for a medical treatment, local daily Arab News reported on Thursday.

Nabeel Baker, spokesman for the Egyptian Embassy in Riyadh, asserted that Mubarak is still in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh.

Egypt's state-run Al-Akhbar newspaper said on Wednesday, citing informed sources, that Mubarak, who stepped down on Feb. 11 due to an 18-day protests, is currently in a military base in the Saudi city of Tabuk for treatment for colon and pancreatic cancer.

The paper said Mubarak's wife Suzanne and his two sons Alaa and Gamal are also living on the Tabuk military base.

Egypt's top prosecutor slapped a travel ban on Mubarak and his family and froze all their assets.

In his speeches to the nation before his resignation, Mubarak vowed that he would live and die in Egypt.
