ANKARA, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have launched a joint humanitarian aid operation to help victims of the unrest in Libya, local media reported Saturday.
Two ships carrying aid materials had set sail from south Turkey 's Mersin port and would reach Libyan city of Benghazi next Monday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency quoted the Turkish Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement.
The ships would send 32 tonnes of medicine and medical materials, 338 tonnes of food, 2,000 tents, 20,000 blankets, 72 tonnes of water, two mobile kitchens and a mobile oven to Libya, it said.
A 13-member Turkish Red Crescent team and a 16-member team from the UAE had also left for Libya, according to the statement.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Friday called humanitarian situation "the most immediate challenge" in Libya, urging for end of violence and delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need.
