TUNIS, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian authorities have imposed a dawn to dusk curfew, from 7 p.m. (1800 GMT) to 5 a.m. (0400 GMT) in the southern mining town of Metlaoui, nearly 380 km from the capital, the official press agency TAP reported Sunday.
The curfew was imposed following clashes that left two dead and tens injured over the weekend.
The incidents which continued on Saturday were sparked by rumors that the main local phosphates company, CPG (Compagnie de Phosphates de Gafsa) was engaged in a secret recruiting operation. CPG quickly denied the rumors but acts of violence and looting continued.
According to TAP, the Tunisian army and elements of the national guard arrested several individuals and seized a number of hunting rifles.
