20110322 Xinhua CAIRO, March, 21 (Xinhua) -- Anger supporters of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi on Monday protested against United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon during his visit to the Arab League (AL) headquarters in Cairo.
After talks with AL Secretary General Amr Moussa, Ban left the AL headquarters in Tahrir square, walking to witness the place of the Jan. 25 protests while Libyan protestors obstructed his route chanting "Down with the U.S. and Italy."
The protestors who accused the UN responsible for all massacres in Libya, also attempted to storm the UN chief. However, the security forces blocked the protesters and guarded Ban out of the square.
Ban urged Libyan authorities to end violence against civilians in a press conference held in Cairo with Moussa.
Ban and Moussa asserted that the intervention against the Libyan situation aimed at protecting the Libyan citizens from bloodshed and civil war.
Ban arrived in Egypt on Saturday after meeting with European, Arab and African leaders in Paris to discuss "ways to move forward to protect the people of Libya" following the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1973 on Thursday to impose a no-fly zone in Libya.
