20110323 Xinhua KHARTOUM, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese President Omar al- Bashir on Tuesday refuted south Sudan government's accusations that Khartoum supported armed militias that threaten the stability of the south which is to be officially declared independent on July 9 this year, reported official SUNA news agency.
The agency quoted al-Bashir as saying that "the government has signed the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) with the south from a position of strength and victory at all fronts of the fighting. The government is committed to all items of the agreement."
He said the government would not start the war, reiterating that the armed forces are able to win in any military conflict and defeat any trend that declares war against the country, the report added.
The southern Sudan government has recently escalated its campaign against Khartoum. Secretary General of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) Pagan Amum released documents which alleged the involvement of the Sudanese armed forces in supporting southern Sudanese rebels and defecting groups.
However, the Sudanese armed forces refuted its involvement and affirmed that the documents were forged and reflected SPLM's failure in containing its internal conflicts.
