Akwa Ibom, Delta and Oyo states have pending political issues that necessitate closer security monitoring on Tuesday to avoid outbreak of violence.
Akwa-Ibom -- An opposition candidate for governorship election in the state, James Akpan Udoedehe, has treason charges hanging on him arising from the violence sparked by the supporters of the ACN and those of the ruling PDP which left four people dead and more than 200 cars torched before the commencement of the general elections.
The atmosphere in Akwa Ibom is tense.
Delta state- During the last Delta State re run Governorship election on January 6, the opposition alleged that results were not collated in the 25 Local Governments of the state where election took place.
The PDP and its governorship candidate, Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan are making waves and made strong showing in the last National Assembly election which was rescheduled in some parts of the state and will take place on Tuesday April 26, the same date of the governorship and House of Assembly elections.
The parts of Delta State affected in this new shift are Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency and Ethiope Federal Constituency.
Even in the places where the National Assembly election took place, there are some pending issues. For instance, at the end of the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for Ika Federal Constituency election, Dr. Godwin Aviero claimed that he was kidnapped and later released following the intervention of the police. He alleged electoral malpractices, in the election.
Dr. Aviero nullified the earlier results he declared which gave the Accord Party candidate, Mr. Victor Nwokolo victory with 17, 235 votes to defeat the incumbent member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Doris Uboh of the PDP who scored 15,129 votes while the DPP candidate scored 9,433. He claimed that he was under pressure to announce the result from Ika Federal Constituency.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Delta state Dr. Gabriel Ogbudu Adah declared the results from all the Delta North Federal Constituencies inconclusive, as violence and snatching of ballot boxes became the order of the day in some key areas.
Two people were also reported killed in Ogume, by Mobile Police details, who were not even supposed to be at the election venue on that day.
In Delta Central, mass protest trailed the national election as incidences of ballot box snatching in some areas which allegedly included the Orogun axis, disruption of elections in the Sapele axis and at least three deaths in Warri/Uvwie axis were reported. The Resident Electoral Commissioner also cancelled the elections in some polling units in the area.
Ever since, the INEC Headquarters in Asaba, the Delta State capital were constantly besieged everyday since the elections on April 9, 2011,by youths and political party supporters of the key political parties in the State especially those of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to protest the results of the National Assembly elections in the state.
Oyo state: The ACN, Accord Party and PDP are locked in what promises to be a tight race. The incumbent governor , Christopher Alao-Akala is seeking a second term and the former governor who is the Governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja is contesting too.
The person of the governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state, Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi also looms larger than life .
Oyo State has a history of violence trailing a contest of this nature.
