DAR ES SALAAM, June 11 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Saturday arrived in Tanzania for a three-day official visit to enhance bilateral relations and partnership between the two countries.

Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Bernard Membe welcomed Clinton at the Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam.

Clinton's visit to the East African nation is also aimed at fostering sustainable economic growth and support of sectors of education, infrastructure, energy and agriculture; combating health pandemics; prevention of conflicts and enhancement of maritime security, according to a statement issued by the Tanzanian Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ministry.

The U.S. secretary of state is scheduled to hold high level talks with Tanzanian Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda on Sunday morning and later launch a project under a "Feed the Future Initiative" -- the U.S. government's global hunger and food security initiative for specific countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

She will also visit a thermal power plant located at Ubungo power station in Dar es Salaam on Sunday and a health center in Dar es Salaam, which is an integrated women's health care center, according to the official timetable of the visit.

On Monday, Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete is set to meet the visiting U.S. secretary of for bilateral talks and hold a joint press conference at the State House before her departure.

Arriving from Zambia's capital Lusaka, where the 2011 African Growth and Opportunity Act Forum was held on Thursday and Friday under the theme "Enhanced Trade Through Increased Competitiveness, Value addition and Deeper regional Integration", Clinton is on a five-day Africa trip that will also take her to Ethiopia.
