20110621 Xinhua CONAKRY, June 21 (Xinhua) -- More than 20 people including a teacher and an officer of the Guinean army have been arrested by the gendarmerie in Conakry for drug trafficking, according to security sources.
The teacher was carrying more than 10 kg of bhang and the officer was found in possession of 315 kg of the same drug destined for the Guinean capital Conakry, the sources told Xinhua on Monday.
They were arrested during a sweeping search launched by the gendarmerie with a view of flushing out robbers and criminals to restore peace and social order throughout the West African country.
The teacher and the soldier were part of the network dismantled in the recent crackdown, the sources said, adding they also found women in the ring.
In order to promote close collaboration with the civilian population, the national gendarmerie has set up a "hotline" for the public to call them in case of an attack, an armed robbery, drug trafficking and other criminal cases, security officials said.
