Nigeria : Nigeria pledges security for delegates to D-8 summit

ABUJA, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian has pledged security for delegates to the 30th Session of the D-8 Commission scheduled to take place on July 11-14 in the capital Abuja.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Martin Uhomoibhi gave the assurance while briefing ambassadors and high commissioners of the D-8 member countries on Monday ahead of the session.

"For the personal security and safety of our esteemed guests, we want to underscore that the ministers, commissioners, secretary- general and other delegations would have full security protection offered by the Nigerian government," he said.

"Security personnel and one protocol officer each will be attached to the ministers, commissioners, secretary general and other delegates," he added.

According to him, all arrangements had been made for the arrival of delegates for the meeting.

"We are also going to have protocol assistants and officers placed at the Abuja airport and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, to facilitate the coming in and going out of our esteemed delegations," he added.

The 30th session of the D-8 Commission will review the status of implementation of previous D-8 decisions in priority, areas such as trade, agriculture and food security, industrial cooperation and SMEs as well as transportation.

It will also include the 14th session of the D-8 Council of Ministers as well as a business forum and exhibition, organized by Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA).

The D-8 countries include Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
