20110625 xinhua NEW YORK, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The former chairman of Egypt's Bank of Alexandria pleaded guilty on Friday in New York of sexual abuse in the third degree.
Mahmoud Abdel Salam Omar, 74, charged with sexually assaulting the employee of Manhattan's Pierre Hotel, admitted kissing the hotel housekeeper's face and touching her breasts.
Omar was arrested in late May on criminal charges of assaulting the maid when she delivered tissues to his room at the Pierre Hotel. Meanwhile, the maid in the case has filed a civil suit seeking five million U.S. dollars in damages. "The defendant's conduct was outrageous," the lawsuit said.
Omar's arrest came on the heels of a similar alleged attack by former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn at the luxury Sofitel hotel in Midtown.
