Libya's fugitive former dictator, Muammar Gaddafi, has called on Libyans to demonstrate against the North African country's new leaders in their millions.



In a new audio message released on Thursday, Gaddafi said the conditions in Libya were 'unbearable now,' Xinhua reported.

He also claimed that the ruling National Transitional Council (NTC) had no legitimacy because it had not been elected by Libyans.

The message comes as the council's fighters are locked up in a fierce battle with Gaddafi's loyalists for the control of his northern hometown of Sirte.

An NTC commander said half of Sirte was under their control and that it would take several days for them to fully capture the city.

Libya has been the scene of intense fighting between the loyalists and the fighters since mid-February, when the revolution was launched.

NTC chairman, Mustafa Abdel Jalil, has said that at least 25,000 people had been killed and 50,000 others injured during the revolution.
