20111025 Press TV Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC) Vice Chairman Abdel Hafiz Ghoga says the country's new leaders are preparing to form an interim government.
"Today, we begin preparing for a new phase... the phase after the liberation, the phase that we will plan and work hard for the future of Libya," Ghoga was quoted as saying by AFP on Monday.
He made the remark after Libya declared full liberation of the oil-rich North African country following the death of former dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
Gaddafi was killed in his hometown of Sirte on Thursday, eight months into an uprising that put an end to his 42 years as dictator.
Meanwhile, NTC chairman Mustafa Abdel Jalil insisted that sharia law will prevail in liberated Libya.
"As an Islamic country, we adopted sharia as the principal law," Abdel Jalil said. "Any law that violates sharia is null and void legally."
An interim government is to be formed within a month, and election for a constituent assembly will be held within eight months to draft a new constitution, the NTC said.
Parliamentary and presidential elections would reportedly be held within a year after the first national election, or within 20 months of Sunday's declaration.
