At least four persons were killed while two others were seriously injured in Jos yesterday when commercial motorcycle riders known as okada clashed with men of the task force to enforce the ban on commercial motorcycle operations. The task force had tried to enforce the ban earlier imposed by the Plateau State Government.
State governor Jonah Jang had in April signed into law the bill banning commercial motorcycle operations in Jos-Bukuru metropolis, but the law was not enforced until yesterday.

In a surprise announcement, the Kimberley Process, the body set up to combat the trade in blood diamonds, has said that Zimbabwe complies with its minimum requirements and should be allowed to export its diamonds.
South Africa's Abbey Chikane, the Kimberly Process monitor, says he's ready to supervise the export of rough diamonds from Chiadzwa in eastern Zimbabwe.

United States Vice President Joe Biden has said he is optimistic that Kenya's reform process will be successfully concluded.
Mr Biden said the US wants to see Kenya conduct a peaceful referendum that will leave the country united.
"We encourage the reform process. We want to see the country grow. Kenya's best days are yet to come," he said during a press briefing at State House, Nairobi Tuesday after holding talks with President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Uganda has backtracked on a decision to bar Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir from the African Union summit in Kampala next month, saying the leader, who is wanted for war crimes, has actually been invited.
Besides President Bashir, sources at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa said Niger and Guinea leaders are yet to be invited to the Kampala summit.
