The Uganda Wildlife Authority and the police are hunting for three hippopotamuses which killed two people and cows in Munyonyo near Lake Victoria and Nakawuka. Peter Lugo, 25, a fisherman, and his young brother, Lazarus Muko, 20 all died during the attack.

The Uganda army has killed 16 rebels of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) in the Central African Republic (CAR) in the past few days. Ugandan army spokesman lieutenant colonel Felix Kulayigye said that the country's army killed five LRA men on May 29th while another 11 were killed on the 30th.

Starting in Kampala on Monday, representatives of governments, the United Nations and civil society groups will meet for the first time to review the workings of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and of the international treaty which set it up, the Rome Statute. The 10-day review conference will consider among other issues the question of extending the court's mandate, which at present covers war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. Congolese human rights lawyer Olivier Kambala wa Kambala reviews the ICC with a particular focus on its operations in Africa.

Cash transfers by text message is a boom market in south and east Africa, with companies looking at introducing more sophisticated products in order to get an advance on the competition.

MTN Uganda, the country's largest mobile phone provider, said Monday that nearly 900,000 people were using its text message money transfer since the service was introduced 15 months ago.
