Lava from an erupting volcano on the Cape Verde, located off the coast of West Africa, has reportedly reached a second village.

Public television in the Cape Verde Islands says U.S. authorities operating at sea have arrested a former navy chief of the small West African nation of Guinea-Bissau who is suspected of being a kingpin in the international drug trade.

The president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, arrives in Cape Verde on Friday for a two-day visit, during which the two sides will sign a visa agreement, official sources disclosed.
