At least 24 people were killed in the latest attack by Boko Haram in Nigeria's northeastern state of Borno, a medical source said Monday.

Dozens of other injured were also rushed to the state-run General Hospital in Biu area of Borno, following the attack by members of the terror group in Kwajafa, a town located 220 km from the state capital Maiduguri, on Sunday, said a medical staff, who was not authorized to speak to the media.

Boko Haram members stormed Kwajafa, in the southern area of Borno, in two Volkswagen Golf cars and opened fire on the residents. The hospital source said 24 lifeless bodies were deposited in the hospital morgue after the attack.

Some local residents were trapped in a fire which set up by the terror group members in the attack.

Local officials said the incident was being investigated but no arrests had been made so far.

According to Malam Musa, a community chief, the relative peace which appeared to be back in the area, had encouraged many of the residents who had earlier fled to other communities due to the Boko Haram attacks, to return to base.

The Nigerian military had recently made joint efforts with multinational troops to rout Boko Haram members from Nigeria and other neighboring countries.
